Jimmie Johnson was counting the laps. Chad Knaus was counting fuel drops. Team owner Rick Hendrick was waiting to count one more win for his team.
Sarcasm aside, what should we take from Tony Stewart’s post-race interview?
First off, let me say that this is written with no malice toward Kasey Kahne.
I was a bit taken aback by Tony Stewart’s comments after Talladega. If they were intended to be funny, he missed by a wide margin.
It was a wild weekend in Talladega and just about every car left the track with some damage. However, it wasn’t just cars that were damaged on Sunday, as poor results in the race damaged the egos of many of today’s frontrunners. Crapshoot or not, Talladega still counts for the same amount of points as any other race and several of the competitors will be happy to cross it off their list until October.
Talladega and Daytona are too damn big to race on. It’s a simple equation. Unrestricted, the cars run too fast.
Whatever the solution, something needs to be done to clean up the plate races going forward.
Late in Saturday race, NASCAR decided to throw a caution for debris, probably thinking it’d help provide the fans with the exciting finish they were demanding.
By now, everyone knows about the black flag that cost Carl Edwards a shot at the win on Saturday night (April 28). Was NASCAR’s call correct?
