The NTT IndyCar Series race in Washington, D.C., has expanded from 125 laps to 147 laps, INDYCAR officials announced Aug. 3.
This makes the Freedom 250 Grand Prix to have 250 miles, celebrating America’s 250th birthday.
“With America celebrating 250 years of freedom and innovation in 2026, it is only fitting that the Freedom 250 Grand Prix will be a true 250-mile race,” Bud Denker, Chairman of the Freedom 250 Grand Prix, said in a release. “The additional laps will create even more opportunities for strategy, on-track action and late-race drama while giving our fans extra value and even more opportunities to enjoy this historic event.”
The street course is set to be 1.7 miles in length and have seven turns.
The Freedom 250 is scheduled to run Sunday, Aug. 23 at 1 p.m. ET on FOX.
