After previous announcements about its ownership group that featured personalities like Darius Rucker and Guy Fieri, Legacy Motor Club has unveiled the full slate of its strategic ownership group on July 30.
The group represents people from both inside and outside of racing, as well as other sporting events.
It includes three open-wheel competitors in Dario Franchitti, Tony Kanaan and Scott Dixon.
“This is not a traditional ownership group,” Legacy owner Jimmie Johnson said in a team release. “It is a collection of people who understand competition, leadership, innovation, storytelling, and how enduring organizations are built. They come from different worlds but share a common belief: that Legacy can become something fundamentally different within motorsports and culture.”
Outside of racing, the owners include baseball’s Chase Utley and Bryce Harper, tennis’ Andy Roddick and surfer Kelly Slater.
Sam Byrne of CrossHarbor Capital Partners and Jen Rubio of luggage company Away round out the group.
Legacy currently operates the Nos. 42 and 43 full time in the NASCAR Cup Series for John Hunter Nemechek and Erik Jones.

Erik Jones’ late father was a friend of mine, so I’ve followed Erik’s career since he was 13. While the team has shown some improvement this season, I have to agree. Almost monthly the last two seasons Legacy has been announcing new partners, owners, advisers and managers, but what are they doing about the people who matter like engineers and fabricators?
Legacy must be the most top heavy team in NASCAR, bringing to mind the old line about “Too many Chiefs and not enough Native Americans” (modified in an effort not to be censored or offend anyone).
