This week on Bringing the Heat With Trey Lyle, Caleb Barnes chats with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. about his career progression from his early days with Roush Fenway Racing to his current ride with Hyak Motorsports. Stenhouse shares insight on how his rookie season came together, as well as what it was like becoming a leader for Roush in the No. 17. Now, Stenhouse is happy with the environment he’s in with Hyak Motorsports and the family environment with the team.
After the interview, Barnes joins Lyle to look at the hottest topics of the week. That includes reaction to NASCAR consolidating practice into a single 50-minute session. Lyle hopes it will produce better racing and have an impact on putting together storylines for each race weekend. The two also look back at Joey Logano’s dominating win at North Wilkesboro Speedway and whether or not even-year Logano can climb into the championship fight.
With the In-Season Tournament Challenge coming to an end, Barnes and Lyle debate the odds of Todd Gilliland defeating Ryan Blaney at Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend. Barnes gives Gilliland a 25% chance, whereas Lyle feels Gilliland has a much better chance at beating Blaney at Indy.
Front Row Motorsports General Manager Jerry Freeze says the organization expects Noah Gragson to remain with the team into the future. Barnes wonders if Gragson is working on finding other opportunities based on this season’s performance, as well as Gragson’s recent comments on other podcasts
In this week’s soundbite, Shane van Gisbergen looks back at his day at North Wilkesboro, which included leading laps. The race was a huge points gaining opportunity for the No. 97 team. Barnes feels SVG has a really good shot at making the Chase given the speed shown by the driver and team over the past few weeks.
