This week on Bringing the Heat with Trey Lyle, Eric Brennan joins following his debut in the NASCAR Truck Series booth on FS1 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Brennan was the first voice on air Friday following the unexpected death of Kyle Busch the day before, and he shares his perspective of preparing for the race, finding out the news, and ultimately calling the race on Sunday morning.
Brennan also details his involvement in racing broadcasts, including in the CARS Tour. While it’s typical to see drivers make their way up by racing in CARS Tour and ARCA races, Brennan is following a similar path through his broadcasting career. Outside of the racing world, Brennan does work a full-time job, balancing corporate security with his broadcasting career and being a husband and dad.
After the interview, Caleb Barnes and Lyle dive into this week’s biggest topics. That includes reactions to the decision to uphold Ryan Preece’s penalty. Preece was penalized for a combination of making comments over the radio about Ty Gibbs, then later wrecking Gibbs at Texas Motor Speedway. Lyle shares concern about wording in the appeal, and what sort of precedent that may set going forward.
In the days since Kyle Busch’s death, conversations surrounding how Busch should be honored and remembered have included some back-and-forth about how Busch should be inducted into the Hall of Fame, which many agree is inevitable. Barnes shares feelings that it’s too early to be too definitive about what that process should be, as family, friends and fans continue to try to work through the grieving process.
This week’s soundbite is from Shane van Gisbergen, who was happy about the team’s race pace but frustrated with his finish in the Coca-Cola 600. Barnes and Lyle look at this weekend as what could be a definitive arrival for a competitive SVG when it comes to racing on ovals.
