Before the start of the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, a pre-race ceremony took place to mourn the loss of NASCAR legend Kyle Busch.
Members of the Busch family including Kyle’s wife Samantha, his two children Brexton and Lennix, older brother Kurt, his parents, and countless friends and colleagues were all together near the No. 8 that was painted into the tri-oval turf at the beginning of the weekend.
NASCAR CEO Steve O’Donnell spoke to the crowd about Busch and his impact on the sport before a moment a silence. The moment of silence was followed by a playing of Amazing Grace on the bagpipes.
The Amazon Prime broadcast also featured multiple tributes during its pre-race show, including stories from drivers and a video voiced over by Dale Earnhardt Jr.
On the pace laps, a missing man formation was performed by the grid, leaving the pole position spot open for Busch.
On Lap 8 of the race, the broadcast went silent to honor and remember Busch, with camera cuts to numerous fans in attendance holding up eight fingers and holding up Busch gear and memorabilia.
