Brad Keselowski revealed Friday (Dec. 19) that he broke his leg during an offseason skiing trip with his family, an injury that required hospitalization and surgery. The 2012 NASCAR Cup Series champion and co-owner of RFK Racing publicized the situation through a post on X.
“I’m grateful for the medical team who took great care of me and for the support system around me,” Keselowski said on X. “My attention now is fully on recovery. I’m motivated to get back to full strength as quickly as possible and will work relentlessly to be ready for Daytona.”
Keselowski later shared photos of him at the hospital with his family.
Keselowski did not officially say he’ll miss any NASCAR action but said “focused on Daytona” in his tweet. The NASCAR Cup Series 2026 season begins on Sunday, Feb. 1 with the exhibition Cook Out Clash at Bowman-Gray Stadium in North Carolina – a little over six weeks from today. By comparison, Kyle Busch missed three months with leg and ankle injuries suffered at Daytona in 2015 while Chase Elliott missed about seven weeks with a similar leg injury in 2023.
Keselowski has competed with an injury before, most famously driving with a broken left ankle for several weeks in 2011 after a practice crash in testing at Road Atlanta. Keselowski bounced back from the incident to win races at Pocono Raceway and Bristol Motor Speedway later that summer when driving for Team Penske.
