The smoke settled as Chase Briscoe celebrated his first Championship 4 berth, delivered via an overtime victory at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 19). Behind Briscoe, Todd Gilliland and Ty Gibbs raced each other to the line for second and third.
Caleb Barnes and Michael Massie are both at the track this weekend, and they bring this edition of Stock Car Scoop to you from pit road.
The action started early with a crash in stage one where AJ Allmendinger had a scary moment getting out of the car. That accident also took out Chase Elliott, who now faces a must-win situation.
The need for a win was a common theme for the other three drivers who leave Talladega below the cutline. Barnes and Massie react to the Team Penske decision to pit Ryan Blaney and Joey Logano for fuel, and the two also talk through the finish where William Byron saw a massive swing in the negative direction.
Barnes and Massie also discuss Briscoe’s run to the win, what he might be able to do at Phoenix, and who will join Briscoe and Denny Hamlin in the championship race.
There is a lot to talk about, but just a little time to do so. Check out Stock Car Scoop on Apple Podcasts and Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts!
