  1. Interesting. Currently, JGR holds three of the four Cup transfer spots.

    Have to think Chevy and Ford will be throwing everything but the kitchen sink at Talladega. I’d expect even stronger manufacturer orders than we’ve seen in past tapered spacer races. Will we possibly see the first incidence of a driver intentionally giving a win to a competitor? Probably not, but the potential for shenanigans is quite high here.

    We have all seen team orders cause drivers to push a teammate to a win even if it’s not in necessarily in their own best interest. It was common in the tandem drafting era. Still, I don’t recall someone leading having a “throttle problem” when racing to the flag, allowing a playoff driver to pass for the win.

    As for Toyota, obviously 23XI will be told to play nice with all JGR cars other than Gibbs. I have to wonder whether Toyota will also tell them to defer to Briscoe or Bell if it comes down to that at the end. The racing politics in this race will be fun to try and discern, as no team can outright admit collusion.
