Legacy Motor Club has been granted a preliminary injunction preventing Rick Ware Racing from selling its charters and race team until the lawsuit is resolved, a judge ruled Friday (Aug. 22).
The preliminary injunction prevents RWR from its original plans to sell its race team to former Spire Motorsports team owner TJ Puchyr.
Legacy and RWR have been part of an ongoing lawsuit in which Legacy claims RWR agreed to sell one of its charter to the team for 2026, but then backed out of the agreement.
Legacy then sued Puchyr, who allegedly helped broker the original deal between the two parties, alleging tortuous interference for his role in attempting to purchase RWR during the course of the lawsuit.
The preliminary injunction now blocks the sale, with the trial set for January.
Legacy is looking to claim its third charter to expand it’s team, which currently fields the No. 42 of John Hunter Nemechek and the No. 43 of Erik Jones.
RWR, meanwhile, currently fields just one car for Cody Ware. It’s second charter is currently being leased to RFK Racing for Ryan Preece‘s No. 60 car.
