Cup Standings After Iowa
After leading more than 700 laps without a checkered flag since his season-opening Daytona 500 triumph, William Byron finally returned to NASCAR Cup Series victory lane on Sunday (Aug. 3) by saving enough fuel and leading a race-high 141 laps to win at Iowa Speedway.
The win was the 15th of Byron’s Cup career, and he retakes the regular season points lead from Chase Elliott with three races left before the playoffs.

Xfinity Standings After Iowa
Sam Mayer was nearly 200 points above the cut line entering Saturday (Aug. 2), but he officially clinched a playoff spot by scoring his first NASCAR Xfinity Series win of the 2025 season — and the first for the newly formed Haas Factory Team — at Iowa Speedway. It’s the eighth Xfinity win of Mayer’s career and his second consecutive at Iowa.
Suddenly, the battle for the regular season championship and the 15 playoff points that come with it is wide open. Connor Zilisch and Justin Allgaier are now tied for the top spot, with Mayer lurking just 16 points behind. There are four races left before the Xfinity playoffs begin.
Austin Hill was suspended for Iowa following his actions at Indianapolis Motor Speedway the week before, and as a result of his suspension, he will start the playoffs with zero playoff points. The 21 playoff points he accumulated have been stripped away, and he is ineligible to gain any more (including the playoff points awarded to the top 10 drivers in the regular season championship) until the playoffs begin.

Truck Standings After 16 Races
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series was off this weekend. Two races remain before the start of the playoffs.
Stewart Friesen is locked into the playoffs via his win at Michigan International Speedway, but his status for the rest of 2025 is unknown after he sustained serious injuries in a dirt racing crash in Quebec Monday (July 28) night.
If he is unable to race in the playoffs, his spot in the drivers’ playoffs will be freed up for another driver, similar to Kurt Busch in the 2022 Cup season following his career-ending crash at Pocono Raceway that July. The No. 52 truck is locked into the owners’ playoffs, regardless of who drives it.
