Tracking the Trucks: Layne Riggs Lays Waste to the Field at IRP

In A Nutshell

For most of the season, when Corey Heim breaks away with the lead, it’s next to impossible to pass him as his truck is so dominant.

On Friday night (July 25) at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, Layne Riggs got to experience what Heim normally gets to experience.

Riggs dominated the night, leading 160 of the race’s 200 laps and winning both stages en route to his second win of 2025. Riggs’ No. 34 was on rails the entire night, making it difficult to even pose a challenge to the second-year driver from North Carolina.

The Top Truckers at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park

Winner, Stage 1 & 2 Winner, Most Laps Led (160 of 200 laps): Layne Riggs
Polesitter, Fastest Lap (23.338 seconds): Corey Heim
Biggest Mover: Corey Day (started 16th, finished second)

Playoff Rundown

Heim has officially clinched the regular season championship, giving him 15 extra bonus points heading into the playoffs — like he needs any more, right?

With two races remaining and three spots currently available by points, one driver will make the playoffs without having to visit victory lane. The highest driver in points without a win currently is Grant Enfinger, who holds a mere 16-point cushion over Kaden Honeycutt.

As it stands, Ty Majeski is on the cut line, with a 61-point advantage over teammate Jake Garcia – meaning barring a new winner, our playoff field is set, as 61 points is a full race worth of points.

Rookie Report

Rookie of the Race: Butterbean showed out once again on the short tracks. Brenden Queen made his first Truck Series start of 2025, driving the No. 07 for Spire Motorsports. While a 16th-place finish is nothing to write home about, it was enough to beat out the rest of the rookies and earn this week’s Rookie of the Race.

Amidst rumors of losing his ride, Andres Perez (22nd) confirms he will continue to drive the No. 77 going forward:

Stewart Friesen (35th) talks about his third-place finish prior to his post-race disqualification:

Paint Scheme of the Race

Typically, if you want to find Tanner Gray’s No. 15 on track, you either look for a black and white Dead On Tools truck or a dual-shades of blue truck with sponsorship from Place of Hope.

If you wanted to find his truck this week, you had to find a completely new color combination.

Gray and the No. 15 had sponsorship from Advanced Business Communications, though it originally wasn’t intended to be like that.

Company owner Larry Pettet, who has been a supporter of TRICON Garage since it was known as DGR-Crosley back in 2021, had his name on board Gray’s No. 15 Ford at Martinsville Speedway as a cancer hero, and he has supported the team ever since.

Pettet continues to fight cancer, and decided that IRP, his home track, would be a good place to showcase his business. However, TRICON went bigger and surprised Pettet by wrapping Gray’s entire truck with his business and its bright colors.

Not only is it a visually appealing truck, but also one with a great story attached to it. A no-doubter for best paint scheme in Brownsburg.

Next Stop

For just the second time since 2000, we’re heading back to the Finger Lakes.

The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series takes another off-week before heading up to Watkins Glen International for the first time since 2021 and the second time since 2000. The race is the second part of a Friday afternoon (Aug. 8) doubleheader with the ARCA Menards Series. Austin Hill won the 2021 event in a rain-shortened affair.

Coverage for the United Rentals 176 at the Glen begins at approximately 5 p.m. ET on Friday, Aug. 8. Television coverage remains on FOX Sports 1, while the all-new NASCAR Racing Network continues its exclusive season-long radio coverage of the Truck Series.
