Shane van Gisbergen dominated Sunday’s (July 13) Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway, leading 97 of 110 laps en route to his third win of 2025.
Despite a rash of late yellows and several drivers having a significant tire advantage, SVG hung on to score the victory.
“We had a great car,” van Gisbergen told TNT. “Amazing, so stoked for Red Bull, Trackhouse, Chevy — unbelievable. Hope everyone enjoyed that.”
Chase Briscoe started second behind SVG and shadowed him for most of the race, and that’s where he ended up at the checkered flag.
“The only opportunity I had was on the restarts,” Briscoe told TNT. “I never played basketball against Michael Jordan in his prime, but I feel like that’s probably what it was like. That guy is unbelievable on road courses. He’s just so good. He’s really raised the bar on this entire series.”
Chase Elliott and Michael McDowell used fresh tires in a late rally to finish third and fourth, while Christopher Bell rounded out the top five. Tyler Reddick and Ty Gibbs finished sixth and seventh, respectively, and advanced to the next round of the In-Season Challenge alongside Ty Dillon and John Hunter Nemechek. William Byron, Joey Logano and Kyle Busch completed the race’s top 10.
Noah Gragson finished 37th after a crash on Lap 98, while Ryan Blaney was also declared out of the race.
Ross Chastain won stage one, while van Gisbergen winning stage two.
The race’s final stage saw many variations of pit strategy, though a caution with 15 laps to go split the field between those who stayed out and those who pitted and had fresh tires in the closing laps.
Van Gisbergen’s third win of the season ties him with Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin and Christopher Bell for the most wins in the Cup Series.
