Shane van Gisbergen won Sunday’s (July 6) Grant Park 165 at the Chicago Street Course, notching his second win in Chicago, his second of 2025 and the third career NASCAR Cup Series win of his career.
van Gisbergen led 26 laps and played the right strategy to earn a weekend sweep, also winning the NASCAR Xfinity Series race the day before. A caution for Cody Ware on the white flag lap ended the race.
Ty Gibbs, Tyler Reddick, Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch, AJ Allmendinger, Ryan Preece, Alex Bowman, Austin Hill and Ross Chastain rounded out the top 10.
Despite Reddick charging hard on fresh tires in the closing laps, van Gisbergen kept a comfortable lead as Reddick battled Gibbs for second. Reddick was unable to pass Gibbs before the yellow flag flew.
“Yeah, I love this place,” van Gisbergen told TNT. “What an amazing weekend for me. I’m a lucky guy to drive some great cars. We just seemed to get it right and made no mistakes.”

Hamlin was forced to start last after an engine failure in practice but finished fourth after stretching his fuel over the race’s final run.
“I was saving the whole run,” Hamlin told TNT. “Truthfully, I felt pretty good all day. We marched forward all day long.”
Gibbs was able to keep van Gisbergen in shouting distance, but couldn’t make a run at the win. Still, Gibbs tied his career-best finish of second, with the other coming at Darlington Raceway in the spring of 2024.
“We needed a little more front turn,” Gibbs told TNT. “I feel like I wasn’t free enough to get my exits right. We had a great day overall and executed well.”
The No. 45 team’s decision to pit when none of the rest of the leaders did on a late caution almost paid off, as he was running laps nearly one second faster than van Gisbergen on the final run. He clocked the Xfinity Fastest Lap in that run but ran out of time to contend for the win.
“It’s great to finish third, but it’s a little bit of a bummer when you look at how much ground we made up,” Reddick told TNT.
Michael McDowell led the most laps with 31, but throttle issues knocked the No. 71 out of contention and led to a 32nd-place finish for the Arizona native.
Carson Hocevar, Austin Dillon, Brad Keselowski, Todd Gilliland, Will Brown and William Byron finished 35th-40th, respectively, after being involved in a lap three crash.
