Shane van Gisbergen Tops Cup Qualifying, Sweeps Both Poles at Chicago

Shane van Gisbergen was once again quickest on the Chicago street course, as he turned the fastest lap in NASCAR Cup Series qualifying on Saturday (July 5) at a speed of 88.338 mph.

The pole marks the third of SVG’s Cup career and his second on the weekend after also topping NASCAR Xfinity Series qualifying.

Michael McDowell turned in the second quickest time to start on the front row alongside SVG .

Carson Hocevar went third quickest and will start alongside Tyler Reddick, who qualified fourth.

Chase Briscoe rounded out the front-five starters, while Kyle Busch completed row 3, as he will roll off sixth.

Row 4 is the RFK Racing Fords of Ryan Preece and Chris Buescher, who will start seventh and eighth, respectively.

Ty Gibbs will roll off ninth alongside Austin Dillon, who rounded out the top-10 qualifiers.

With 41 cars entered for 40 spots, Corey Heim was the lone driver who failed to qualify. Katherine Legge bumped Heim from the field late in the session after Heim made contact with the wall earlier in his qualifying effort.
