RFK Racing to Appeal No. 17 Team’s Penalty

Almost a week after receiving an L1 penalty following the NASCAR Cup Series’ Advent Health 400 at Kansas Speedway, RFK Racing will appeal the penalty given to the No. 17 team of Chris Buescher, the team announced May 19.

“After a thorough review of the penalties issued to the No. 17 Ford Mustang, RFK Racing has decided to appeal NASCAR’s decision,” the team said in a statement. “We respect NASCAR’s commitment to fair competition and appreciate the opportunity to engage in the appeals process.”

After the race the team was inspected at the NASCAR R&D Center where a violation with the front bumper was found. The team was fined $75,000 and was docked 60 driver’s and owner’s points, along with five playoff points.

Crew Chief Scott Graves also had to serve a two-race suspension starting at the All-Star Race. However, the team hasn’t asked for a deferral on the suspension, so Graves may still miss the Coca-Cola 600.
