Zane Smith Signs With Trackhouse, Will Drive For Spire In New Combined Effort

Zane Smith will drive for Spire Motorsports in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2024. This move for Smith, announced Sept. 16, drops the final link in a chain of dominoes.

The first domino fell when Frontstretch’s Dalton Hopkins confirmed a report from The Athletic that Live Fast Motorsports planned to sell its Cup Series charter to Spire Motorsports for a price of $40 million.

The second tile tilted when Trackhouse announced a multi-year driver agreement with Smith.

To put the pieces together, Trackhouse and Spire will form an alliance, and Smith will drive for Spire Motorsports in the Cup Series in the 2024 season.

“This is an incredible moment for me,” said Smith. “Trackhouse is one of the most progressive organizations in the garage. I told some friends a year ago that I wanted to be a part of what Trackhouse is doing and I just can’t believe this is all coming true. I am very excited and thankful to have a future with the organization.”

“Expansion is not something to be taken lightly, but we feel Trackhouse is commercially and technically positioned for growth,” said Trackhouse owner Justin Marks. “You need good timing, very good partners and great drivers. Adding Zane is like signing the No. 1 draft pick and we are proud that he is now a member of the Trackhouse family.”

Smith, the 2022 Truck Series champion, has seven Cup Series starts, splitting between Front Row Motorsports and a substitute drive for RFK Racing. His best finish came at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the spring, where Smith finished 10th.
