Kimi Raikkonen will return to Trackhouse Racing at Circuit of the Americas in the NASCAR Cup Series, the team revealed March 8.
The former Formula 1 champion will drive the No. 91 in the car’s first appearance of 2023.
Onx and iLOQ will support the effort, with Darian Grubb the crew chief.
“I had a fantastic time in NASCAR,” Raikkonen said in a team release. “There was a lot to learn in a very short amount of time, but everyone was very helpful, the competition was a big challenge. This time I get to race on a track I am familiar with so there won’t be as steep of a learning curve. I want to have fun, but also do as well as we can.”
Raikkonen debuted with the team last year at Watkins Glen International, finishing 37th.
“When we announced Kimi last year I said he was the global superstar I had in mind when we created PROJECT91,” team co-owner Justin Marks added. “I think you saw the fan reception across the world and Kimi’s performance in the car was proof of the concept. Kimi’s following is massive and it’s great for NASCAR, Trackhouse plus I think Kimi really enjoys our racing.”
Other appearances for Raikkonen and the No. 91 for 2023 have not been announced.
He joins a COTA lineup that also includes interlopers Conor Daly for The Money Team Racing and Jordan Taylor, who will fill in for Chase Elliott at Hendrick Motorsports.
