Todd Gilliland will drive Front Row Motorsports’ No. 36 car at Talladega Superspeedway on April 23 to complete the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season, FRM announced March 2.
The news comes after FRM had announced prior to the season that Gilliland would not be running the full season in the team’s No. 38 Ford like he did the prior season. Instead, Gilliland will compete in 30 Cup events, and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series regular Zane Smith will finish out the remaining six races in the car.
While Gilliland will remain with FRM for Talladega, he will compete with Rick Ware Racing in its No. 15 for the other five events, giving him a full season and a chance at the championship.
The extra race comes with the aid Ruedebusch Development and Construction, which will be sponsoring Gilliland for the race.
“I really want to thank Carl Ruedebusch for everything he has done for me,” Gilliland said in a team release. “It is not just this year, but last year, and being a good friend to our family. Also, it’s important to be clear that Bob Jenkins [FRM owner] has put more resources into my career than anyone outside my family. It was unfortunate that I can’t race all 36 races with FRM, but the team is working hard to build my program for the future.
“For now, I want to thank all our partners and especially Carl Ruedebusch for working together to make this happen. We will now put this behind us and go race to win.”
Gilliland finished 27th in the season opener at Daytona International Speedway and followed it with a 17th at Auto Club Speedway last weekend.
