Sam Mayer Wins 1st Xfinity Pole at Charlotte

Sam Mayer has continued to improve throughout the 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series season, and with a speed of 179.882 mph, he capitalized with his first series pole at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Mayer has recorded six top-five finishes in the last seven races this season, with a late-crash crash at Talladega Superspeedway being the one exception.

JR Motorsports swept the front row in qualifying, as Mayer’s teammate Justin Allgaier recorded the second-fastest time.

Ryan Preece qualified third in his second Xfinity start this season, and Josh Berry qualified fourth to give JRM three of the top four starting spots.

Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Trevor Bayne and Brandon Jones will make up the third row in fifth and sixth, while Noah Gragson rounded out the JRM cars in seventh.

Points leader AJ Allmendinger qualified eighth, and in a surprise, Timmy Hill qualified ninth for his best qualifying effort in 231 career Xfinity Series starts. Defending champion Daniel Hemric completed the top 10.

Kyle Sieg, Ronnie Bassett Jr., Jeffrey Earnhardt, Ty Gibbs and Riley Herbst did not complete a qualifying lap. With 38 starting spots and 42 entries, Sieg, Bassett, Mason Massey and David Starr were the four drivers that failed to qualify.
