Ryan Truex is back with Joe Gibbs Racing, running a part-time schedule for the team in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, JGR announced Feb. 24.
Truex will run the No. 18 in four races, starting at Las Vegas Motor Speedway next week.
His other three starts include events at Martinsville Speedway, Darlington Raceway and Texas Motor Speedway, all during the first half of the season.
“I’m honored to compete in the No. 18 Toyota GR Supra with Joe Gibbs Racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series this season,” Truex said in a team release. “Having the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a Joe Gibbs Racing entry is an absolute dream come true. Even better, Toyota is sponsoring my inaugural race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway next weekend. I can’t thank them and Joe Gibbs Racing enough for making this happen.”
Truex last competed with JGR 10 years ago, when he drove a part-time schedule in its Nos. 18 and 20 in 2012. He also drove multiple races for JGR’s No. 20 in 2011.
He’s the third driver to be announced for the No. 18 this year, joining Drew Dollar and Trevor Bayne. Truex’s four-race announcement means the No. 18 has announced just short of half its driver schedule for 2022.
Truex has already announced a part-time Xfinity schedule with Sam Hunt Racing for 2022. He made his first start at Daytona International Speedway, finishing 12th in the No. 26. The rest of his races with SHR have not yet been announced.
