Kevin Magnussen will be making his NTT IndyCar Series debut this weekend at Road America, taking the place of Felix Rosenqvist who was not cleared to drive, Arrow McLaren SP announced Wednesday (June 16).
Rosenqvist is recovering after a large impact into the tire barrier during Saturday’s race at Detroit. Oliver Askew, who competed for him on Sunday, is driving for Rinus VeeKay.
“Following an evaluation by the INDYCAR Medical Team, Felix Rosenqvist has not been cleared to race at this weekend’s REV Group Grand Prix at Road America,” the team said in a post on Twitter. “Felix will continue to be supported by the team as he progresses in his recovery.“
It’s a reunion of sorts, as Magnussen drove for the McLaren Formula 1 team in 2014 and earned a second place finish at the Australian Grand Prix. He also competed for Renault Sport in 2016 and Haas from 2017-2020.
Magnussen currently races in the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship for Cadillac Chip Ganassi Racing and won this past weekend’s event at Belle Isle.
