William Byron had the fastest lap in wet and rainy conditions in the NASCAR Cup Series’ only practice session of the weekend at Circuit of the Americas Saturday, May 22.
Bryon went 77.847 mph during the period, edging out Team Penske’s Joey Logano lap speed of 77.558 mph. Byron’s Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kyle Larson was third quickest, Kyle Busch was fourth and Chase Elliott had the fifth-fastest lap.
Christopher Bell was the sixth and final driver to post a lap over 77 mph. Chip Ganassi Racing cohorts Ross Chastain and Kurt Busch were seventh and eighth fastest, Ryan Blaney was ninth and Michael McDowell completed the top 10 on the charts.
Only one driver didn’t make it out onto the track, Quin Houff.

Qualifying for the EchoPark Texas Grand Prix is scheduled for May 23 at 11 a.m. ET, with the race to follow at 2:30 p.m. ET.
