Stefan Wilson Attempting Indy 500 for Andretti

Andretti Autosport has added one more young gun to its stable for the 2021 Indianapolis 500.

Stefan Wilson returns to the Andretti roster for the Indy 500 in the No. 25 LohlaSport Honda, he announced May 4.

The 31-year-old Englishman’s entry marks his first attempt to qualify for an IndyCar event since his 2018 entry with the same team, a venture that saw him lead three laps and almost win the event before running out of fuel in its closing laps, relegating him to a 15th-place finish.

“After leading laps with Andretti Autosport at the Indianapolis 500 in 2018, I’m hungry to return and finish the job,” Wilson said in a team release. “I’ve worked tirelessly to make this return happen and I am so thankful that LOHLA SPORT has believed in me to represent them. It’s a dream come true to rejoin Andretti and also partner with Honda once more in the Greatest Spectacle in Racing.

He has three total starts in the series since 2013, alongside multiple races in the Indy Lights Series between 2009 and 2012.

Wilson is a teammate to full-time Andretti competitors Colton Herta, Alexander Rossi and Ryan Hunter-Reay, while the team also has ties to the entries for James Hinchcliffe and Marco Andretti.

The coverage for the 2021 Indy 500 will be on NBC on Sunday, May 30 at 11 a.m. ET.
