Harrison Burton Attempting Cup Debut at Talladega

Harrison Burton will attempt to make his NASCAR Cup Series debut with Gaunt Brothers Racing at Talladega Superspeedway next week, GBR announced April 15.

Burton will field the No. 96, sponsored by longtime backer Dex Imaging.

The No. 96 is not a full-time team but will likely be in the field based on its owner’s points.

Thus far in 2021, GBR has attempted three races and made two of them, all with Ty Dillon. The No. 96 failed to qualify for the Daytona 500.

“I’m incredibly grateful to DEX Imaging and Toyota for providing this opportunity with Gaunt Brothers Racing,” Burton said in a team release. “From the moment I started racing, the Cup Series was always the goal. In everything I’ve done, I’ve been working toward this moment. I saw how hard my dad worked to get to Cup and how hard he worked to compete and win races. He instilled that same work ethic in me and I’m just really proud and honored to have the chance to do what he did and compete with the best of the best.”

Burton, the son of multi-time Cup winner Jeff Burton, competes full time for Joe Gibbs Racing in the Xfinity Series. In 49 starts, he has four wins, 18 top fives and 32 top 10s. He also boasts 11 top fives and 18 top 10s in the Camping World Truck Series.
