Fernando Alonso Involved in Cycling Accident

Fernando Alonso was involved in a cycling accident in Switzerland, Alpine Formula 1 Team announced Feb. 11.

According to the team’s Twitter page, “Fernando is conscious and well in himself and is awaiting further medical examinations tomorrow morning.”

Alpine, formerly known as Renault, signed Alonso last July. Alonso is set to make his return to F1 after two years out of the sport. He will compete with teammate Esteban Ocon in the 2021 season.

Alonso last competed with McLaren from 2015-2018. In total, he has 32 wins and 97 podiums throughout his 17 year career.

According to La Gazzatta, Alonso was hit by a car while biking.

It’s not currently known if Alonso’s injury will affect his participation in the start of the F1 season, which begins March 28 in Bahrain.
