After a year hiatus, Ed Jones will race in the 2021 NTT IndyCar Series season for Dale Coyne Racing with Jimmy Vasser and James Sullivan, the team announced Jan. 27.
Jones will pilot the No. 18 Honda sponsored by SealMaster Pavement Products, which is entering its fourth season aboard the car.
Santino Ferrucci drove the car in 2020 but switched to the NASCAR Xfinity Series this year, where he’ll drive part time for Sam Hunt Racing.
Though Jones missed all of last year due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, he’ll compete in his fourth IndyCar season. He raced for Dale Coyne in his rookie season in 2017 and finished third in the Indianapolis 500. Jones then raced full time for Chip Ganassi Racing in 2018 before going part time for Ed Carpenter Racing the following year.
“I’m really excited to join the Coyne Vasser Sullivan team for the 2021 NTT IndyCar season,” Jones said in a team release. “I started my IndyCar career with Dale, Jimmy and Sulli have had much success as owners together, and the combination of Coyne, Vasser Sullivan is a proven team over the last three seasons. I’m pumped for the opportunity to drive the No. 18 SealMaster machine and represent the SealMaster franchisees across the country, this really is the perfect opportunity.”
The 2016 Indy Lights champion has three career IndyCar podiums.
Coyne’s other drivers are yet to be announced.
