Ty Gibbs Running Part-Time Xfinity Schedule for JGR

Ty Gibbs is coming to the NASCAR national series.

In addition to competing for the 2021 ARCA Menards Series championship in the team’s No. 18, the grandson of team owner Joe Gibbs will debut in the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2021, JGR announced Jan. 26.

Gibbs will drive the No. 54 beginning at the Daytona International Speedway road course.

Further races for Gibbs, who turned 18 in October, have not yet been announced.

He joins Kyle Busch as the announced drivers for JGR’s No. 54 in the series in 2021. Busch’s schedule has not yet been announced. Martin Truex Jr. and Denny Hamlin will also compete in the No. 54, the team announced Jan. 26, running at least one race each.

“I’m pumped to run the full season in the ARCA Menards Series,” Gibbs said in a team release. “(Crew chief) Mark (McFarland) has put together an amazing team that gives me a chance to be successful every week.

“I’m also really excited to have the opportunity to work with (crew chief) Chris Gayle to make my debut in the Xfinity Series. I can’t imagine a better situation for me to learn and be able to compare notes, not only with my Series’ teammates like Brandon (Jones), Harrison (Burton) and Daniel (Hemric), but also veterans like Kyle, Denny and Martin who I will share the car with.”

Gibbs competed in JGR’s No. 18 at all tracks at which he was cleared to drive in ARCA in 2020. In all, in 27 starts since 2019, he has eight wins, 19 top fives and 23 top 10s.

He’s also got one win, five top fives and five top 10s in six starts in the ARCA Menards Series East.

Chris Gayle was previously announced as the No. 54’s crew chief.
