James Hinchcliffe Returning to Full Time With Andretti in 2021

After competing in a part-time schedule with Andretti Autosport in 2020, James Hinchcliffe returns to full time with the team in the NTT IndyCar Series in 2021, the team announced Jan. 26.

Hinchcliffe will pilot the team’s No. 29, fielded as part of Andretti Harding Steinbrenner Autosport.

Genesys will sponsor the effort for 10 races, including the Indianapolis 500.

“We’re really excited to have Hinch back in the car for 2021 and thrilled to welcome Genesys again to the Andretti family, this year in an expanded role,” Andretti Autosport Chairman and CEO Michael Andretti said in a team release. “This is just the first step in many exciting things for the No. 29 and we know Genesys will be a great partner serving as the cornerstone to the season for James.”

“This program is something we’ve been working on since the day we signed our three-race deal with Andretti Autosport last March,” Hinchcliffe said. “Being back full time has always been the goal and it feels so great to know that I will be back on the grid and with such an amazing team, one I’ve had a lot of great memories and success with.”

Hinchcliffe last competed full time in 2019, driving for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports and finishing 12th in points.

Last year, he ran a depleted six-race schedule, all for Andretti, with a best finish of seventh in the Indianapolis 500.
