Zane Smith will continue his tenure at GMS Racing in the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series next season, the team announced today, Oct. 12.
The driver of the No. 21 Chevrolet Silverado has had a breakout season with the organization this season, winning two races along with 10 top-10 finishes.
Smith’s truck number for 2021 was not specified in the release.
The 21-year-old advanced to the Round of 8 of the playoffs and is currently sitting in third in the standings.
2020 has been Smith’s first full-time season in the Truck Series after a part-time run at JR Motorsports in 2019.
“I’m just thankful to Maury (Gallagher), Mike Beam, Chevrolet and all of GMS Racing,” Smith said in a release. “It was one thing to be full time for such a good race team like GMS, but to get to do it again is a whole other thing. It takes a lot of pressure off myself going into this final round of the playoffs knowing I have a job next year. Now there is a good kind of pressure and that’s winning the championship in my rookie year. I can’t wait to be back full-time next season with the knowledge and experience I have now.”
The Truck Series returns to action Oct. 17 for the Clean Harbors 200 at Kansas Speedway. Smith will look to lock a spot into the Championship 4.
