Will Power, Takuma Sato on Pole for Races at Gateway

The NTT IndyCar Series take on another oval this weekend, this time at the World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway. Will Power won the provisional pole for Saturday’s (Aug. 29) Bommarito Automotive Group 500, while Takuma Sato took the top spot in the second race of the doubleheader on Sunday (Aug. 30).

The lineups based on a qualifying format similar to what was run at Iowa Speedway. Drivers ran two timed laps; the first lap set the time for the first race, while the second lap placed their position for Sunday.

Race 1

Team Penske’s Power had a fast first lap speed of 182.394 mph that set him on the top of the leaderboard. Pato O’Ward was second quickest, going 182.076 mph. Scott Dixon’s lap speed of 182.006 mph took the third spot, while Marcus Ericsson was fourth quickest. Sato’s 181.286 mph was fifth fastest on the first lap.

Josef Newgarden, Jack Harvey, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Alexander Rossi and Colton Herta completed the top 10 qualifiers.

Race 2

Sato, the Indy 500 winner, had the fastest second lap, going 182.499 mph for the second race. Newgarden, Power and O’Ward also went above 182 mph, with Harvey rounding out the top five.

Dixon, Ericsson, Simon Pagenaud, Felix Rosenqvist and Herta completed the top 10 starters.
