Phil Surgen will be the new crew chief for Matt Kenseth‘s No. 42 Chevrolet this weekend at Michigan International Speedway, Chip Ganassi Racing announced Tuesday, Aug. 4.
Surgen, previously a race engineer for the team, is scheduled to be atop the pit box for the remainder of the 2020 season, replacing Chad Johnston.
Johnston has been the crew chief for Kenseth since NASCAR’s return at Darlington Raceway in May.
Kenseth had scored two top-10 finishes since replacing Kyle Larson in the No. 42. Their best result together came at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in July, where he finished second.
