After a multi-year respite from full-time Formula 1 competition, Fernando Alonso will return with Renault in the series in 2021, the BBC reports.
A deal has not been finalized and announced yet by the team but is expected to be “soon,” according to the BBC.
Alonso would replace Daniel Ricciardo, who’s moving to McLaren next year, and would team with Esteban Ocon.
The two-time F1 champion last raced in the series in 2018. In the last few years, he’s attempted the Indianapolis 500, racing in 2017 to a 24th-place result. He also twice won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2018 and 2019.
His last F1 win came in 2013, with his last podium in 2014.
