The NASCAR Cup Series Alsco Uniforms 500k event originally scheduled for Wednesday night (May 27) has been rescheduled due to heavy rains. Tropical Storm Bertha formed Wednesday morning just off the coast of South Carolina and quickly moved ashore, bringing heavy rains and gusty winds to the Carolinas. The Alsco Uniforms 500k has been rescheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. ET and air on FOX Sports 1.
NASCAR had previously stated that since the track had been completely soaked by the rain, it would take around two hours to completely dry. A drop dead time around 8 p.m. to begin track drying came and went with rain still falling and some standing water in places. As a result, NASCAR decided to postpone the race to Thursday night.
In addition, the Xfinity Series Cheddar’s 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway, originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon, has been moved to Monday night at 7 p.m. ET. This is due to the logistics of the equipment teardown, transportation and setup in Bristol with limited staff under the current circumstances. The rescheduled Xfinity race will also air live on FOX Sports 1.
When the race goes green Thursday night, William Byron will lead the field to green in Thursday’s event; as per NASCAR’s policy for the second race of a doubleheader weekend, the top 20 finishers from the Coca-Cola 600 were inverted to set the lineup for the Alsco Uniforms 500k.
