Garrett Smithley, Contec Pair for Xfinity Charlotte Race

Garrett Smithley has gained a new sponsor in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

Smithley will be sponsored by Contec, Inc., for the upcoming Xfinity event at the Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL, Contec announced Monday, Aug. 19.

According to Contec’s tweet about the partnership, Smithley will drive JD Motorsports with Gary Keller’s No. 4 at Charlotte. He’s driven the team’s No. 0 in all races thus far this season, though JDM has been known to slot its various drivers in different car numbers based on sponsorship.

It’s unknown who will drive the No. 0 at Charlotte instead of Smithley.

In 22 starts in 2019, Smithley is 18th in Xfinity points with an average finish of 22nd. His best finish, 12th, came at Talladega Superspeedway.

He’s also competed in five Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series races, with a best finish of 30th at Michigan International Speedway.

JDM’s No. 4 has largely been driven by Ross Chastain in 2019.
