Spencer Boyd Making Cup Debut at Michigan

NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series driver Spencer Boyd will make his debut in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series this Sunday, Aug. 11, at Michigan International Speedway.

Boyd will drive the No. 53 for Rick Ware Racing, which will be a Ford Mustang this week.

“I’ve known Rick (Ware) for a long time,” Boyd said in a press release. “He’s opened a lot of doors for me and this is a really big door for which I am truly grateful.”

Boyd, a 24-year-old driver from the St. Louis suburb of Creve Coeur, Mo., is the regular driver of the No. 20 Chevrolet Silverado for Young’s Motorsports, with with six top-20 NGOTS finishes this season and a best result of fourth at Daytona International Speedway.

He sat out of the Eldora Dirt Derby due to a back injury.

“Spencer is a smart young driver with a great deal of potential,” team owner Rick Ware said.  “I respect him for what he’s been able to do in our sport and I’m happy to be in a position to provide him this opportunity.”

The RWR No. 53 is 41st in the MENCS owner standings out of 45 total teams, while Boyd is 16th in the NGOTS driver standings with 244 points.

The Consumers Energy 400 will be Sunday, Aug. 11 at 3 p.m. ET, with TV coverage on the NBC Sports Network.
