Ryan Vargas Making Xfinity Debut at Iowa With JD Motorsports

Ryan Vargas will make his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut with JD Motorsports with Gary Keller next week in the US Cellular 250 at Iowa Speedway, the team announced Wednesday afternoon (July 17).

He will pilot the No. 15 Chevrolet Camaro for JDM, with sponsorship from Cranio Caro Bears, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness for children dealing with skull growth problems.

Vargas is an 18-year-old from La Mirada, Calif., who is an alum of the Drive for Diversity program. He competed in the K&N Pro Series East in 2018 with Rev Racing, scoring six top 10s in 14 races and finishing sixth in the standings.

“Making my NASCAR Xfinity Series debut at Iowa just makes sense,” Vargas said in a press release. “I think if we can keep all the fenders on my No. 15 Chevrolet and run as many laps as possible, the weekend will be a success. At this point in my career, I want to learn as much as I can so I can keep moving up the NASCAR ladder, so I am not necessarily worried about what the results show.”

The No. 15 has been driven by four drivers so far this season and sits 23rd in the NXS owner standings out of 46 teams total with 234 points through 17 races.

The US Cellular 250 will be held Saturday, July 27 at 5 p.m. ET, with TV coverage on the NBC Sports Network.
