In this week’s edition of the Frontstretch Podcast, Dustin Albino and Mike Neff discuss Martin Truex Jr. breaking through to win at a short track in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series — hist first, at Richmond Raceway.
Other questions they debate: is how much longer did Joey Logano need to pass the No. 19 car to take the victory? Why couldn’t Clint Bowyer capitalize on having a faster car than Truex?
Kevin Harvick believes Richmond was the first time the No. 4 team had a legitimate shot at the checkered flag this season, coming home fourth. The former champion says outsiders have their expectations set too high after an eight-win season last year.
Both Austin Dillon and Ryan Newman had standout performances for their respective teams, while Kyle Larson was snakebit yet again, placing last due to a cut tire. Larson now sits 19th in points.
The NASCAR Xfinity Series had a barn-burner at Richmond where Cole Custer made a statement win. And, oh, don’t look now, but Ryan Sieg is putting together a great season, finishing fifth last weekend.
Finally, Matt DiBenedetto calls in to the podcast to discuss his 24th-place finish at Richmond, saying the No. 95 team never found the right setup during the race. He also breaks down Leavine Family Racing’s alliance with Joe Gibbs Racing, expectations as the season progresses, what he’s doing over the off week and much more.
