After the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series morning practice was cancelled due to a heavy mist, it extended final practice to an hour and 20 minutes. As soon as cars took to the track, Kyle Larson was the fastest.
Larson, who also topped Friday’s lone practice, turned 87 laps, grabbing the top time early in the session at 159.011 mph, more than two-tenths of a second ahead of Denny Hamlin in second (157.343 mph).
Another Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota was in third as Erik Jones ran a lap of 157.095 mph, with Aric Almirola (156.808 mph) and Chase Elliott (156.556 mph) rounded out the top five.
Five playoff drivers filled out the rest of the top 10, beginning with Kurt Busch (sixth), Clint Bowyer (seventh), Ryan Blaney (eighth), Kyle Busch (ninth) and Kevin Harvick (10th).
Despite having the 10th quickest single-car lap, Harvick had the best average time of the combined 77 laps the No. 4 car turned at 152.549 mph. Just behind him was his Stewart-Haas Racing teammate Bowyer. Meanwhile, Larson had the best five-lap, 10-lap and 15-lap averages.
There were four drivers outside the top 10 in the playoffs, beginning with a pair of Team Penske Fords in 12th and 13th with Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano. Two-time Dover winner Martin Truex Jr. was mired down in 19th, while Alex Bowman was 22nd.
Logano and Jimmie Johnson each ran 95 laps, which was the most in the session.
