Coming off a wild last lap finish at the ROVAL propelling the No. 42 team into the second round of the playoffs, Kyle Larson topped opening Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice at Dover International Speedway.
Larson turned a lap of of 164.444 mph to lead the way, more than one-tenth ahead of spring winner Kevin Harvick (163.451 mph) who had the second quickest time in the 55-minute session.
Playoff drivers Kurt Busch (163.362 mph), Chase Elliott (163.236 mph) and ROVAL winner Ryan Blaney (162.719 mph) rounded out the top five.
Austin Dillon, Denny Hamlin, Erik Jones, Brad Keselowski and Daniel Suarez filled positions six through 10.
11-time Dover winner Jimmie Johnson was 11th on the scoring pylon, whole playoff drivers Martin Truex Jr. (12th), Clint Bowyer (13th), Alex Bowman (14th), Aric Almirola (16th), Kyle Busch (19th) and Joey Logano (22nd) were all outside the top 10 on single-car speeds, as drivers were solely in qualifying trim.
Bubba Wallace ran 18 laps, the most in the practice session.
Qualifying is set to begin at 3:40 p.m. ET. Kyle Larson won the pole for the spring race at Dover.
