Sunday, Aug. 5, 2018 will live in NASCAR history as Chase Elliott‘s first career Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series win.
But Daniel Suarez‘s strong fourth-place run in the GoBowling at The Glen wasn’t too shabby, either.
Suarez finished third at Watkins Glen International last season (his best career finish at the time) and followed that up with another top-five finish at the upstate New York road course this weekend.
“It was a good race, solid effort from my team,” Suarez said post-race. “We’re getting close. This is what we need, to run top five every week, and if we continue to do this, I’m going to be a happy boy.
“I like road course racing I don’t feel like I have had the best car here yet — the car to beat — but we have had top-five cars so far twice this year. And we have finished in the top five (in both those races). Good effort from my team.”

This is the Monterrey, Mexico native’s second straight top five this season (second at Pocono Raceway), third overall and sixth top 10. He’s also looking forward to the playoffs, where a new road course at Charlotte Motor Speedway will make its debut to the sport.
“Every time that we have road course racing, no matter where it is, I’m excited.” Suarez said. “So that’s cool.”
Suarez and the No. 19 team will look to continue their hot streak next weekend at Michigan International Speedway, where he finished 30th earlier this season.
“We can’t give up. Now, we’re heading in the right direction, so we just have to keep working. We can build from this, and hopefully we can finish in Victory Lane soon.”
