Part-time Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series team Gaunt Brothers Racing announced Thursday (June 14) that their No. 96 Toyota Camry will be running at Sonoma Raceway next weekend with Parker Kligerman behind the wheel.
Kligerman ran at Charlotte with the team in the Coca-Cola 600, finishing a respectable 27th of 40 cars.
“We’re happy to have Parker back in the car for Sonoma,” said GBR co-owner Marty Gaunt in a press release. “This is our first road course race, and we’ll be leaning on his experience at this type of track.”
Kligerman has eleven career MENCS starts with a best career finish of 18th at Texas in 2013. In addition, Kligerman has finished in the top 10 in five of his six career National Series road course starts. The sole exception is a 13th-place finish at Mid-Ohio in 2013.
“I really enjoyed the whole weekend with GBR at the Coca-Cola 600, and I’m thankful to have another opportunity,” Kligerman said in a press release. “I feel some of my best races in NASCAR have come on road courses, so I’m looking forward to Sonoma.”
In his road course races of 2017, Kligerman piloted the low-budget Precision Performance Motorsports No. 46 to a 10th-place run in the XFINITY Series Johnsonville 180 at Road America, in addition to guiding the Henderson Motorsports No. 75 truck to an eighth-place finish in the Chevrolet Silverado 250k at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
GBR has run six MENCS races this season with DJ Kennington behind the wheel, with a best finish of 20th at Talladega Superspeedway. The No. 96 is 37th in the owners standings, leading all teams without a charter.
The Toyota/Save Mart 350 will be Sunday, June 24 at 3 p.m. ET, with television coverage on FOX Sports 1.
