David Starr Joins Jimmy Means Racing for 2018

David Starr will compete full-time in the NASCAR XFINITY Series in 2018, driving the No. 52 for Jimmy Means Racing, the team announced Wednesday (Feb. 7).

Starr moves over from the No. 99, for which he competed all 33 races in 2017, finishing 25th in the point standings with a top five and a top 10.

He replaces Joey Gase, who departed the No. 52 after 2017 to compete full-time for Go Green Racing and its newly formed No. 35 program in the series.

“I’m eager to get the season started,” Starr said in a press statement. “I have a lot of respect for Jimmy; he’s a true racer and has been in the industry for a long time. His knowledge will only enhance our race program and performance on the track.”

Added team owner Means: “We’re glad to have David on board and we’re looking forward to a great year with a talented, proven winner.”

Starr has 130 starts in the XFINITY Series, scoring a top five (which came in 2017 at the summer Daytona International Speedway event) and three top 10s. He also has four wins, 48 top fives and 117 top 10s in 317 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts, dating back to 1998.

Sponsorship for the 2018 season has not been announced, though the team’s release noted an announcement would be made in the coming week.
