On Friday morning, Team Penske announced that longtime partner PPG Paints would become a primary sponsor on Ryan Blaney‘s new team. PPG Paints will be the primary scheme on Blaney’s Ford Fusion in six races during the 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season.
The company will serve as a full-time associate sponsor on the No. 12 in the races where they do not serve as the primary sponsor. In addition, PPG Paints will serve as an associate sponsor for all the Team Penske Chevrolets in the Verizon IndyCar Series and both DJR Team Penske Ford Falcons in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.
“PPG has been a trusted and valued partner with Team Penske for over 30 years as one of our longest-tenured sponsors,” said team owner Roger Penske in a press release. “It has been exciting to see the partnership grow over the last three plus decades and we will work together as we continue to build the PPG brand through an increased presence with our team in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.”
The races PPG will be on the car will be at Auto Club Speedway, the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte, Sonoma, Watkins Glen, and the fall playoff races at Las Vegas and Phoenix.
The announcement brings Blaney’s known primary sponsorship to 23 of the 36 races in 2018. Previously, Team Penske announced that Menards will cover 14 races, the REV Group for the spring Bristol and fall Talladega races, and Fitzgerald Glider Kits the fall Bristol race.
“It’s great to see some of our current partners step up and become a part of the No. 12 team for next year and beyond,” said Blaney. “PPG is a name and that everyone recognizes. They’ve been a part of Team Penske for a long time, so it’s great to see them strengthen their support of our group. I’m excited to see the PPG car on the track the first time.”
For Blaney, 2018 will not be the first time that he will drive under the PPG banner. Back in 2015, PPG served as Wood Brothers Racing’s primary sponsor in the Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. In that race, Blaney started 16th and finished 14th.
Blaney, 24, has driven full-time in MENCS for two years with Wood Brothers Racing, notching a win, eight top fives and 25 top 10s. Over in the XFINITY Series, Blaney has six wins, 37 top fives and 50 top 10s.
