For the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, the season comes to an end on Friday afternoon at Road Atlanta. 31 cars will battle for glory on the 2.54-mile road course.
In Grand Sport, there are 13 cars entered. The race will be a swansong for cars that aren’t fully GT4-spec. These grandfathered cars will be ineligible to compete in the series next year. This includes any Porsche Cayman GT4s that are not the MR-spec. That means that CJ Wilson Racing’s cars would not be allowed to race. Automatic Racing’s No. 99 Aston Martin would also be disqualified under those rules.
KohR Motorsports has expanded back to two cars for the first time since Sebring in March. Pirelli World Challenge regular Nate Stacy, who made his series debut at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, will share the car with veteran Scott Maxwell. The last time KohR Motorsports broke out the No. 60, Maxwell and Jade Buford won the Sebring 120.
In Street Tuner, there are 18 cars entered. Murillo Racing’s Eric Foss will once again share his No. 56 Porsche Cayman with Justin Piscitell for his run at the championship.
There is a quasi-new team entered at Road America. That is Goldcrest Motorsports. We use the term quasi here because they’re not really a new team. They’ve been a regular presence on the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge grid for years. However, that has usually been in association with other teams. Recently, that has been with Kris Wright Racing and Strategic Wealth Racing. This weekend, Goldcrest Motorsports is racing sans additional branding. They’ll be fielding their own No. 39 Porsche Cayman for Angus Rogers and Curt Swearingin.
Finally, at Freedom Autosport, Tom Long has returned to the No. 27 Trumpf-sponsored Mazda, replacing Marc Drennan.
The FOX Factory 120 is scheduled to go green at 1:50 p.m. on Friday afternoon. The race will be streamed live at IMSA.com and FansChoice.tv.
