Erik Jones Paces Chicagoland XFINITY Final Practice

Erik Jones was quickest in final practice for tomorrow afternoon’s The House 300 from Chicagoland Speedway in his No. 20 NBA 2K18/GameStop Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota.

Jones’ quick lap of 173.310 mph (31.158 seconds) was just ahead of Spencer Gallagher. The XFINITY Series rookie, who has struggled for much of the season ran a quick lap of 172.381 mph (31.326 seconds) for second on the speed charts.

Daniel Suarez, Cole Custer and Ryan Blaney rounded out the top five in practice once the 50-minute session concluded. William Byron, Kyle Larson, Elliott Sadler, Brennan Poole and Blake Koch completed the top 10.

Brendan Gaughan, who currently occupies the final playoff spot, was 19th fastest in the session. Dakoda Armstrong, who is looking to punch his ticket to the playoffs, wound up 21st.

Jones, who ran 28 laps, also had the fastest 10-lap average of the session over Byron.

Poole ran the most laps in the field in this session with 41. Blaney ran 37, the second-most.

Looking at those on the back end of the field, Mike Harmon ran just two laps and Timmy Hill ran only one. Matt Mills was the only driver to not run a lap in the session; all of these drivers have severely underfunded rides or are expected to start and park.

There were a plethora of pit road speeding penalties that NASCAR handed out during the session. However, none of them affect qualifying tomorrow or the race.

Qualifying for tomorrow’s The House 300 is scheduled to take place at 12:35 p.m. ET. Kyle Busch won the pole for this event one year ago.
