William Byron has dominated the Camping World Truck Series field all day at Homestead-Miami Speedway. However, he actually had to sweat it out a little in the final round when it came time to qualify. Despite that, Byron was still able to get the job done.
Byron was able to put down a lap of 31.600 seconds (170.886 mph) to win the pole for tonight’s Ford EcoBoost 200. While he was fastest in the first round by nearly one-sixth of a second, he was only able to beat out Cole Custer for the pole by .016 of a second to take his sixth pole of the year.
Behind Custer was Kyle Larson in third. Defending race winner Matt Crafton was fourth quickest, best of the Chasers. Spencer Gallagher picked up more than two-tenths of a second in Round No. 2 to move up to fifth.
John Hunter Nemechek was sixth, followed by Tyler Reddick. Chaser Christopher Bell will start eighth, while Brady Boswell (driving in place of the injured John Wes Townley) and Noah Gragson round out the top 10.
Timothy Peters qualified 13th in the first round, just .018 of a second slower than Boswell, the last driver to advance. Johnny Sauter qualified a disappointing 19th, worst of the Chasers.
Jennifer Jo Cobb, Tommy Joe Martins and Norm Benning failed to qualify for the race.
Coverage of tonight’s Ford EcoBoost 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway begins with NCWTS Setup on FOX Sports 1 at 7:30 p.m. EST. The race is scheduled to go green around 8:15 p.m. EST.
