Kyle Larson Leads Lone Friday Cup Practice at Phoenix

Kyle Larson led the way in the lone NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice at Phoenix International Raceway on Friday (Nov. 11), pacing the field with a speed of 139.524 mph.

Larson was followed by two Chase competitors in the top 5, with Joey Logano coming in second at a slightly slower 139.492 mph, while Denny Hamlin ran fourth at 139.152 mph.

The other two in the top 5 were Chase Elliott (third, 139.297 mph) and Martin Truex, Jr. (fifth, 139.136 mph).

Larson’s teammate Jamie McMurray, Jimmie Johnson, Kurt Busch, Ryan Blaney and Matt Kenseth rounded out the top 10.

All Chase competitors made the top 20 at least, with Kyle Busch the slowest of the group at 138 mph, good enough for 19th.

At the back of the field, DJ Kennington, making his Sprint Cup Series debut on Sunday, ranked 40th at 128.599 mph in the No. 55 for Premium Motorsports.

Qualifying for the Can-Am 500(k) will follow tonight at 6:45 p.m. ET, followed by a happy hour practice on Saturday at 6 p.m. ET. The race begins at 2 p.m. ET Sunday (Nov. 13) on NBC.
