Cole Custer, Johnny Sauter Swap Crew Chiefs

When Cole Custer arrives at Iowa Speedway for this weekend’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event, he’ll have a new crew chief atop his pit box.

Marcus Richmond has moved from Johnny Sauter’s GMS Racing No. 21 to Custer’s JR Motorsports No. 00, the team confirmed Tuesday (June 14). Richmond takes over for Joe Shear, Jr., who resigned earlier this month and has since taken Richmond’s old role at GMS’ No. 21.

Richmond is a fairly prolific crew chief in the series who has held jobs at Richard Childress Racing and Red Horse Racing prior to his stint with GMS. He has a total of nine victories as a crew chief, the most recent coming as part of Sauter’s season-opening victory at Daytona International Speedway.

Custer is competing in his first full-time season in the Truck Series. Through seven races, he has one top 5, two top 10s and is 14th in points. Sauter, meanwhile, is seventh after his Daytona win, four top 5s and four top 10s.
