AJ Allmendinger, Ben Kennedy Among 4 Added to Richard Childress Racing’s XFINITY Roster

Richard Childress Racing added some star power to its No. 2 NASCAR XFINITY Series  on Wednesday.

RCR announced it has filled the seat for the five NXS standalone races. Ben Kennedy, Sam Hornish Jr., AJ Allmendinger and Michael McDowell will all get a shot at bringing the No. 2 to Victory Lane, a feat the team has already accomplished once this season at Auto Club Speedway, when Austin Dillon won.

Kennedy will make his NXS debut at the first Iowa race, while Hornish will drive in the second Iowa race as well as the Kentucky race in September.

Allmendinger will race at Mid-Ohio and McDowell at Road America.

Hornish and Allmendinger have a total of five wins between them on the NXS tour, with Hornish a previous winner at Iowa and Allmendinger a past victor at Mid-Ohio.

Danny Stockman will crew chief the car.

“I’m looking forward to working with this talented group of drivers,” Stockman said. “It’s going to be great to work with Ben (Kennedy) in his XFINITY Series debut and also with all the veteran drivers. They’ll bring a lot to the table for us. I’m confident we’ll have a shot to win with all of these guys.”
